Funerals

The parish clergy are available to conduct funerals at St Wilfrid’s and also at local crematoria and cemeteries.
Please ask your Funeral Director to contact the Vicar via the Parish Office before arranging a date and time for the funeral.

Funerals in Church
A funeral service in the church building provides time and space to reflect and give thanks to God for the life of a loved one, commending him or her to the mercy of God, and praying for God’s comfort for all who mourn.

Unlike at the crematorium, there is no limit on the length of a church funeral service. The service can personalised to suit particular wishes and can include hymns, recorded music, poems and special words of tribute by family members.

The service in church can be followed by cremation or burial elsewhere.

The church hall is often available for providing light refreshments and an opportunity for people to meet afterwards.
The church fees for funerals will be dealt with by the funeral director.

Memorial Garden
There is a small memorial garden behind the church, where the cremated remains of parishioners and church members may be interred in the lawn.

No memorial plaques or flowers are permitted. Please ask the clergy for more details.

For funeral arrangements, please contact the Vicar via the Parish Office in the first instance.
